The ship picks up a ship and the crew both excited and now nervous about who is out there watching them, double the work getting an identification on what the ship is. By the time they discover that they are being scanned by Borg, there chief science officer get beamed out and suddenly they warp out leaving the crew lost in how they did that. The ship matches course and heading and they warp out after them.
